Lung cancer, previously known as a ‘smoker’s disease’ now has many environmental factors known which show synergistic effect in causing the cancer. Lung cancer in non-smokers suggested researchers to study the potential role of other environmental and occupational factors as triggering risks. This review highlights current knowledge of the environmental triggers and their role in lung cancer. Prolonged exposure to many of these environmental factors is known to confer alterations in cancer genes. Such mutations caused by environmental factors have also been summarized in this review.
